Position Overview<\/p>\n

The Office of Mines and Minerals is seeking two (2) candidates to fill two (2) Land Reclamation Specialist 2 positions which provides technical advice and consultation to mining companies in the preparation and review of plans for reclamation projects; travels to inspect reclamation sites to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; consults with supervisor concerning policy formulation according to the Department policies, rules, and regulations.<\/p>\n

Job Responsibilities<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Provides technical advice and consultation to mining companies in the preparation and review of plans for reclamation projects; inspects sites for compliance with regard to wildlife, vegetation, soil and water standards and all other performance standards; collects water samples to test for water quality, inspects soil to ensure proper removal, replacement, and proper grading and erosion structures are installed; inspects to ensure all drainage from the affected area is collected and directed to sediment control facilities; travels to various locations within assigned area.<\/li>\n
  2. Visits and consults with operators of surface and underground mine operators to ensure compliance with current laws; advises coal operators on proper procedures and guidelines to follow in order to comply with current laws and to accomplish satisfactory reclamation; anticipates potential problems at mine site; makes on-site evaluations of pending mine permit applications and reviews field sites for potential applications.<\/li>\n
  3. Prepares permit and application related correspondence with regard to divisional decisions and policy; drafts letters and documents for submission to Springfield for Division Supervisor.<\/li>\n
  4. Reviews permit applications; writes permit application findings; responds to comments from interagency and public; calculates bond fees for proposed permit area; assists higher level specialists in preparing legally mandated public hearings regarding mining applications.<\/li>\n
  5. Prepares maps for future and current mining operations; verifies topographic and aerial photographs; collects data concerning affected acreage reports, reclamation progress, water monitoring reports and bonding; maintains a complex set of records for each mine site under review.<\/li>\n
  6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
