RiverLink’s River Camp Counselor Position

Summary: The River Camps Counselor will be expected to assist with all aspects of camps on a daily basis for all four camp sessions. This is a position for someone who loves to work outdoors and share their enthusiasm about the environment with children. A positive attitude and a high energy level with a commitment to excellence are also essential. The position does not offer benefits or paid sick/ vacation days.

Responsibilities:
• Attend every day of camp, weekdays
o Arrive at 8:30am
o Stay until 4:30pm
o If sickness or family emergency cause counselor to miss camp, counselor must immediately notify the director the night before the day to be missed.
• Assist with supervision of campers at all times
o Use appropriate discipline when necessary
• Assist with all activities: River recreation (canoeing, tubing, rafting), Environmental Education (Project WET, Enviroscape, Kids in the Creek, tours of parks and wastewater facilities), Service Learning (river cleanups, tree plantings, etc.)
• Share driving responsibilities- driving a 15 passenger van
• Communicate professionally with parents/ guardians
• Counselor is responsible for logging hours worked on a timesheet

Dates of Camp:

June 15th-19th (rising 3rd-5th)

June 22th-26th (rising 6th-8th)

July 13th-16th (rising 3rd-5th)

July 20th-24th (rising 3rd-5th)

Requirements and Qualifications:
v Must be able to pass a criminal background check
v Clean driving record
v An eligible candidate must be 18 years of age and have documentation of citizenship / naturalization / resident alien status
v Required experience working with children ages 9-14 in an educational or camp setting
v Preferred environmental education knowledge of riparian ecosystems and watersheds and river recreation (ie canoeing, rafting, etc.)
v College degree or currently enrolled in college (Prefer degree in Environmental Education/Studies)
v Ability to do physical labor (i.e. trash pickup and tree plantings)
v Ability to lift 30 lbs.
v Ability to work outdoors six hours a day
v Ability to work closely with and take directions from River Camps Director
