2015-2016 Environmental Education Naturalist Teaching Fellowship, FPDWC (Illinois)

Recruitment is underway for the 2015-2016 Environmental Education Naturalist Teaching Fellowship with the Forest Preserve District of Will County (Illinois). Please make the opportunity available to your students at SIU interested in interpretation and environmental education.

In brief, the Fellowship position is an 11-month term position that provides recent graduates interpretation experience and grooms professional skills. The term is more than a seasonal position, but a formal professional building program with mentoring, job shadowing, formal training, networking with other conservation agencies, certifications, and performance evaluation. The Fellowship includes on-site housing and a monthly stipend of $1320.00.

Attached is the 2015-2016 recruitment piece and job description. The recruitment piece outlines job duties, requirements, compensation, hiring timeline, and questionnaire. A complete application packet consists of: cover letter, résumé, completed questionnaire, college transcripts, and references. Application packets are received US mail; due April 30, 2015. There are two fellowships available for the 2015-2016 term. Interviews will take place in May. This year’s term is due to begin August 2015 and run through June 2016.

This will be the eight year for the Fellowship Program. Fellow alumni have gone onto secure positions with high profile agencies including the The Nature Conservancy, Bradford Woods (IN), Lincoln Park Zoo, the National Park Service, Brookfield Zoo, the Morton Arboretum, Illinois Forest Preserve Districts, and the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.

You or your students are encouraged to contact me with any questions. I enjoy speaking with and helping students.

A SIU alum and former student of yours is a current Fellow. Your interpretation curriculum and his course work with you gave him a leg up on other candidates during the interview process. Will you be attending the EEAI conference down at Touch of Nature next month? The conference seems right up your ally with your students. We have two staff attending.
